You’ll learn about media institutions, the future of the media, television, photography, sound, film, video, graphic design, new media, web, print production, broadcast journalism, music video, DVD authoring, audio techniques, live-band recording, script writing, film directing, professional camera work, both from the practical and theoretical aspects, and how you can fulfill your potential of working in the media.
The majority of our students have gained places at university or jobs in the media industry in the UK and locally for Channel TV and Island FM.
We have a range of professional media equipment including the latest Apple MAC computers, Sony HXR-NX5 Hi Definition tapeless cameras, Sony PD170 and Sony HVR-Z1 Hi Definition Cameras as used by BBC and ITV, Nikon professional digital still cameras (DSLRs), AVID, Adobe Premiere and Apple Final Cut video editing software, Pro Tools sound design, Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop and After Effects, new purpose built video and sound recording studio.
We also have links with outside producers to help students build their media experience. You will be given assignments designed to achieve clear learning outcomes, which will be then graded at pass, merit or distinction level. Work is applied to specific work related situations or activities, with opportunities for teamwork and in-depth study. You need to be at least 16 and have 4 GCSE passes at grade A to C (This must include English and maths) or an equivalent qualification. You need to be highly motivated and highly enthusiastic about the media industry. Mature students will be considered on an individual basis. If you want to be a film or TV director, sound recordist, cameraperson, journalist, producer, video editor, advertising copywriter, write screenplays, work in music video production, present TV shows - then this is the course for you.
