The Literacy
Workshop
For full-time students
Literacy is timetabled for 2 x 1
hour sessions each week and allows you to:
- work on your own and as part of a small
group
- work at your own pace
- target your literacy needs
- get support with assignments
- read and borrow from a selection of short
fiction texts
- prepare for Adult Literacy exams (entry, level
1 and level 2)
- get help with job applications
- improve general knowledge
For part-time students
1 x 2 hour session is available and allows you to:
- work on your own and as part of a small
group
- work at your own pace
- target your literacy needs
- read and borrow from a selection of short
fiction texts
- prepare for adult literacy exams (entry, level
1 and level 2)
- get help with job applications
English GCSE
English GCSE is available for full and part-time
students
- Cambridge International First Language
English (IGCSE)
- Core tier examinations paper 1 & paper 3
(grades C-G) sat in May or extended tier
paper 2 & paper 3 (grades A*-E)
The Maths Workshop
This is for full-time students and allows you to:
- work on your own and at your own pace in
small classes with support from tutors
- target your numeracy/maths needs
- prepare for adult numeracy exams (entry,
level 1 and level 2), or GCSE maths (AQA
modular), either resitting in November or
doing the full qualification from the start.
You are generally timetabled for 2 hours a week.
If you have already achieved a GCSE maths grade
C or above, or passed adult numeracy level 2 you
will not need to attend these sessions
A/S maths can be offered to suitable qualified
and committed students, but they would have to
attend the maths evening class workshop.
ICT at College
Our IT staff are available to help students to:
- become familiar with Windows software
- become familiar with Apple Mac software
- improve their setting-out of assignments
- gain qualifications in ICT
- gain a qualification to allow progression to
higher level course
Evening classes
In Literacy and Numeracy are available through
Adult Education or by contacting the skills
development manager.
Staff training in ICT is also available through the staff
development manager.
