Graduation 2020

Guernsey College of Further Education held its 2020 graduation ceremony on Tuesday 3 November at The Princess Royal Centre for Performing Arts.

This year 17 students celebrated their success and were presented with certificates to mark their achievement by the Bailiff of Guernsey, Mr Richard McMahon. The event was sponsored by SPF Private Clients.

Qualifications attained were:

  • CMI Level 5 Certificate in Management & Leadership
  • City & Guilds Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training
  • BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Construction
  • BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Art & Design
  • CIOB Level 4 Diploma in Site Management

The Art & Design qualification is a full-time study programme; students on other courses undertook studies whilst in full-time employment.

College Principal Louise Misselke said:

“It was fantastic to see so many students successfully completing their qualifications. Their achievements are testament to their hard work and to that of their tutors. This year’s graduates had the added challenge of dealing with the changes to their study routines created by the pandemic – challenges which they faced and overcame amazingly well.

“The College, which is now part of The Guernsey Institute, offers a range of higher education courses, giving students a real alternative to off-island study and in many cases allowing them to continue working and earning money. Our HE programme is under constant review and I am excited at the opportunities that will be available to develop it further as The Guernsey Institute structure progresses. Congratulations again to all our 2020 graduates.”

Charlotte Froome who is Employability & Enterprise Coordinator at the College and who was awarded the City & Guilds Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training said:

“In my day-to-day work at the College, I help organise work placements for students so undertaking this course was a natural choice for me and a step in my own career progression. I was really well supported by the College team throughout this journey and it has opened my eyes to just how hard teachers work and how students at the College are supported to develop professionally alongside attaining their qualifications.“

Alex Loveridge, a graduate from the Art & Design Diploma course added:

“I really enjoyed the creative freedom that we were given on this course. Our lecturers always encouraged us to develop our creativity and to explore new media. The atmosphere at the College is great, and whilst your lecturers are always there to guide you, it’s within a really friendly environment.”
