Aim Higher at the College
Guernsey College of Further Education offers a number of Higher Education qualifications across a range of subjects. These courses are run in association with several UK universities with which the College team has developed working relationships. These courses are ideal for students who prefer to remain on the island and who prefer to study on part-time basis whilst also working and earning money. COURSE DETAILS
CONSTRUCTION/BUILT ENVIRONMENT
BTEC Level 5 HND in Construction – a two-year course starting in September 2020 on a day release basis
The Level 5 BTEC Higher National Diploma in Construction is available to students who have previously studied this qualification and have successfully undertaken and gained higher level qualifications. Core Modules include Design Principles and Application for Construction and the Built Environment; Construction; Science and Materials for Construction and the Built Environment; Applied Mathematics for Construction and the Built Environment; Management Principles and Application for Construction and the Built Environment; Group Project in the Construction Industry; Health, Safety and Welfare for Construction and the Built Environment. Successful completion will allow progression to a construction degree.
CIOB Level 4 Diploma in Site Management – a two-year course starting in September 2020
The CIOB Level 4 Certificate and Diploma in Site Management are qualifications developed to provide career progression and increased promotion prospects. The course provides training in site management for those who want to be or might already be employed in a managerial position.

EARLY YEARS
Higher National Certificate/Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care – applications accepted now
The BTEC Higher National Certificate/Diploma (HNC/HND) in Early Childhood Education and Care is aimed at students wanting to continue their education through applied learning. The HNC/ HND will provide a wide-ranging study of the early education and care sector and is designed for students who wish to pursue or advance their career in early education and care practice or related fields.

BUSINESS, MANAGEMENT & FINANCE
CMI Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership – a one-year part-time programme
This course provides the key skills and competencies needed to become an effective middle manager. Typical units include: Introduction to personal development, Leadership Practice, Resource Management, Managing Team Performance, Organisational Financial Management, Meeting Stakeholders’ and Quality Needs.
CIPD Level 5 Certificate in Human Resource Practice – a one-year part-time programme
This is an intermediate level qualification which offers the opportunity to further develop HR skills after studying the CIPD Level 3 Certificate. Typical units include: developing professional practice, business issues and the context of human resources, using information in human resources, resourcing and talent planning, reward management, employment law.

IT & COMPUTING
HNC in IT & Computing – a one year full-time course
This course has a blended delivery pattern and will provide you with useful foundations for a successful career in computing and technology. It is broad based and will develop your knowledge of aspects of software development, technical support, networking and web development.

QUALITY ASSURANCE, TEACHING/TRAINING
TAQA Level 4 Quality Assurance Training- various start dates during 2020
For practitioners who conduct internal quality assurance (QA) of the assessment process within an organisation. Develops knowledge and skills in IQA principles and practice.
Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training – starting in September 2020
Suitable for in-service trainers and holders of Level 3 Award in Education & Training.
These courses are designed for those individuals who wish to teach post-16 students and adults in various settings and develop their teaching skills.

CREATIVE & DIGITAL ARTS
HND in Art & Design – a two year full-time programme
The course has been designed to appeal to those undergraduates seeking to access careers within the creative sector on the island.
The programme has been developed by working closely with local employers to identify essential skills such as critical thinking, creative problem solving, presentation and pitching skills that are required to be successful in the creative sector. The programme also offers work placement opportunities, live briefs to work on, national awards competitions and professional practice.
Students will have the opportunity to mature and grow their own creative techniques and practices in a range of media against a backdrop of business, commercial and entrepreneurial development, in order to prepare for entrance into the workplace.
The structure of the programme is 15 hours of lectures, workshop, practical sessions and contextual learning, accompanied by individual tutorial support, project work and work placements. Students have full access to well-equipped studios, Mac suites and workshops for independent study, experimental learning and preparation for a creative profession.
