Mini art gallery to showcase students’ creative talent

Our Creative + course students are exhibiting and selling their artwork all this week thanks to the OSA Pop-Up Shop. The premises has been transformed into a mini art gallery with work from level 1 to level 3 students on show to the general public.

Work  includes photography, paintings and 3D sculpture work that students have completed either as part of their course or privately on their own time. All pieces are on sale, creating a rare opportunity for people to purchase original work.

The initiative has been organised in part by the college’s Enterprise Academy students as an opportunity for them to gain hands-on experience in event organisation and project management.

Alan West, for the Guernsey Arts Commission said that the gallery was an ideal way to nurture the next generation of local creative talent:

‘We are extremely lucky in the island to have such a wide range of artistic talent. This type of initiative is a fantastic opportunity for these young artists to engage with the Guernsey public and gain direct experience of showcasing their work. I am looking forward to seeing the exhibition and I would encourage as many people as possible to take the time to visit.’

Jonathan Snow, the college’s enterprise manager commented:

‘Our students are excited about putting on the exhibition and we may have enough material to change the display midway through the week. Having this facility means that we can create a real-life commercial environment – albeit on a small scale – for students to experience. We are extremely grateful to OSA for the use of the premises. And who knows… someone could pick up something from the next “Damien Hirst”!’

The gallery is open 10.00am to 4.00pm, from Monday 15 to Friday 19 February
