BTEC Level 2 Sport & Leisure

The first part of this one year full-time course will encourage personal development in sport through a range of practical and theoretical activities. In the summer term you will complete an NVQ in Fitness Instructing. The completion of this year will allow progression to the Level 3 Sport course or employment in the leisure industry. The course will give you a wide understanding and appreciation of anatomy and physiology, health related fitness, various sports and the application of techniques and tactics alongside a selection of specialist topics that will require research based enquiry followed by practical application of your knowledge and understanding.

This course is made up of two qualifications:

  • BTEC Certificate in Sport
  • Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing

 

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at grade D/3 or above including English

Assessment method

A combination of research based written and practical assessment and externally assessed exams

Progression opportunities

BTEC Level 3 Sport Business or leisure industry employment

BTEC Level 3 Sport Business

The two year full-time course is designed for those of you who want to pursue a career within sport. The qualification allows you to develop wide-ranging knowledge, understanding and skills required for direct progression into existing sport businesses or to set up your own sport business. It also meets the needs of those who wish to progress first to further study at a wide range of universities and international scholarships.

The Level 3 Sport Business course covers various topics ranging from anatomy and physiology, fitness training for health and wellbeing, professional development, and application of fitness testing. This course will provide a diverse insight into a variety of vocations within the field of sport and provide opportunities across the community to deliver coaching sessions within schools, fitness sessions within gym environments, officiating and coaching at sporting events across the island and much more. You will complete four placements across two years to enable you to experience the variety of work available in the industry and focus yourself on where you want to progress to.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including English

Assessment method

A mix of external assessment, coursework and practical assessment. Learners will be assessed through a range of styles including written examinations, practical application of knowledge and sector relevant production of materials and presentations suitable to the assignment scenario.

Progression opportunities

Higher education or employment.

Additional learning support

As part of your learning programme, if you have not yet attained a grade C/4 or equivalent in mathematics and English language, you will be required to study a Functional Skill or GCSE in these subjects.

Students may require additional support for a number of reasons. At the start of your course you will be asked to complete an initial assessment in order for us to identify any additional needs that you may have. During your course, your personal tutor will be able to guide you on how best to access support.
